According to Entertainment Weekly one of the best comedies of the nineties (and possibly ever) is going to get a sequel. Bobby Farrelly was pretty quiet about it and he told no one that he was developing a sequel for their cult
movie from 1994, maybe because it is still in development, meaning that it still needs to be approved by the producers, although there are talks that the filming begins in September. Still I believe that this is a golden opportunity for everyone involved: viewers would get the chance to see more adventures of Harry and Lloyd, production would get money since this would obviously be a success, and I think that the actors and directors are anxious to work on the same characters and jobs that worked so well in the past. And now is the time when you say: wait a minute, I think that there is already a sequel to this masterpiece! And you are right, in 2003 Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd came out of the trashcan as an attempt to milk the original. Needless to say that it failed miserably… Without the original actors and with a newbie writer, it was a pale photoshoped copy of a poster of the original movie. It’s better that we forget that it was ever made…
Anyway, in a few months we will know for sure what is happening, but the most important thing is that everyone is willing to work, and that it got this far which means there is a script and a general idea about the movie. This is crucial, and now when this news gets out everyone will spam the producer to go on with the project. So I have a positive vibe about this project and I hope that we will see it in a couple of years, maybe even as early as 2013. As far as the script goes I wouldn’t like to speculate about the storyline since no one actually knows what’s it about. But as with other stuff surrounding this movie, that will start to surface as time goes on, there are so many directions and possible plots with these characters that the possibilities are endless and I already think that this is going to be an awesome movie, although it would technically fit in with current trend of rehashing of older movies either via remakes or via sequels…
