Full Length Documentary: Runtime 1 hour 32 minutes
It’s funny how you think that the first documentaries you’re going to be reviewing will be the ones that impacted you the most (Adam Curtis, Slavoj Zizek), but you end up with a baby killer one. The main reason for this is my determination to give these life-changing docs the treatment they deserve. So, here we are, back in the true crime. Which should not come as a surprise, as I am a true crime fan. The Investigation of Lucy Letby is a solid Netflix documentary about a nurse accused of killing at least 17 babies in the neonatal unit of Countess of Chester Hospital back in 2015. First of all, I have no idea why this case is controversial or divisive. And I’m not talking about the crimes, which are horrendous, but about the notion that she might be innocent.
I mean, I understand that there are a lot of stupid and attention-seeking idiots out there, but this feels more like an artificial scandal. Something you’ll find out more about in the documentary. It did a good job of presenting a factual account of what really happened and the bizarre aftermath of a rather quick trial. We will get both the interrogation footage and bodycam footage, along with interviews with all the relevant parties. We will hear from the doctors who worked in that hospital, investigators, and critics. I still find it funny that the Brits force their suspects into interrogations, allowing them to say no comment to questions, unlike the American system of lawyer/no interview.

However, there’s something else that made The Investigation of Lucy Letby a highly controversial documentary: the use of AI characters. We will talk about this at the end. I will also tell you why I think there’s irrefutable proof that Lucy is the one behind the deaths of these infants. One thing was crystal clear when it comes to the critics and supporters of Lucy Letby’s innocence: all the high-profile players are in it for the publicity. Hell, just 3 days ago (03.01.2026), The Guardian published an article alleging that one of the most damning pieces of evidence, incontrovertible in its nature, might be called into question. Based on fucking nothing, just looking for clicks.
I want you to pay close attention when that part of the documentary comes. I will not give them any more of that by writing down their names, but I did notice a strange correlation. I remembered watching The Staircase, a documentary about Michael Peterson, a man accused of killing his wife on the infamous staircase in their house. There’s even a superb miniseries of the same name released in 2022 and starring Colin Firth and Toni Collette. Man, I just remembered the “owl theory” and chuckled.

Peterson hired Henry Lee, an American doctor, to help with his defense. And Lucy Letby has a Canadian doctor, Shoo Lee, in her corner, saying she did not kill those babies. It appears that the fact that they share the same last name, same profession, and same tendency to argue against convictions is just a coincidence. It goes without saying that any discrimination based on ethnicity, nationality, or skin color is just dumb. I suggest either hating all of these groups, including the one you belong to, or none of them. Since there are a lot of assholes and idiots on this planet, they’re represented in every single subset of our population.
Finally, it’s time to talk about the three things that convinced me that Lucy Letby is guilty. Spoilers to follow, so be aware of that. The first and most obvious thing is that fucking chart. What are the odds that Lucy was working all the shifts for all the infants that died? I mean, if she’s innocent, that’s some big fucking coincidence. Secondly, you can see her behavior during the interviews. Not just the lack of emotion or empathy when it comes to the issue of fucking dead babies. The very presence of both emotion and empathy when the subject is herself and her “plight”. The final nail in the coffin, at least for me, is the insulin issue. Even if she was the unluckiest and clumsiest neonatal nurse in the history of humanity, that would still not explain the insulin overdoses.

I want to just come out and say it, the AI hype bubble is real and I fucking hate it. And I especially hate AI content in all forms. That’s the reason why you won’t see any of that shit here, on Subversive Rabbit. I guess I’ll have to add AI punks fuck off to my standard Nazi punks fuck off. The reason I bring up this topic is that The Investigation of Lucy Letby uses AI to generate characters and scenes that were meant to be anonymous. At first, I thought these were paid actors and was like, this is better than that pixelization and voice modulation. However, once I figured out this was AI, I was disgusted. This is just downright creepy, especially when you see their attempts to milk the emotions of the viewers.
I’m talking about scenes where these AI characters break down and cry while talking about their dead children. Fucking disgusting. But hey, they saved money by not hiring actors, and everyone else needed to shoot those scenes. If that is, they already decided to go down this route of full anonymity. I suggest you check out National Geographic’s Trafficked with Mariana van Zeller to see how professional anonymity works best.
