I guess you can sum up Bodies Bodies Bodies, the latest take on the slasher and who-done-it subgenres with three words: flashy but watchable. I thought I was going to hate this movie so much. A bunch of obnoxious characters locked into a huge mansion during a storm with a killer offing them one by one. Just tell me what you think about this premise. On top of that, you can feel those strong Gen Z vibes. If you watched the television show Euphoria (I love it), you know what I’m talking about. However, despite all of this, I enjoyed this movie.
And you can see how they leaned into this premise by either killing or making fun of almost all the characters. Even the title of the movie, Bodies Bodies Bodies is such a clever marketing gimmick that I can only say I tip my hat to you sirs and madams. Of course, underneath all of this, there’s not much substance. The characters are developed only to the point of them serving a zing or moving the plot moving. And the same can be said about the story in general. So, this is a fun commercial distraction that will successfully keep your attention for ninety minutes. It’s visually appealing and the direction isn’t half-bad either. A definition of a mediocre A24 movie.
When it comes to the cast, I have to say outright that I find Pete Davidson really annoying. I know he plays the douchebag here and that I probably have more in common with him than any of the other actors. It’s just that I find him annoying and that’s it. On the other hand, I think I’m in love with Lee Pace.
He was one of the main reasons why I decided to check out this movie and he did not disappoint. He can be anyone and play any type of role. And I can’t wait for him to become even more popular. The rest of the cast was okay, with Amandla Stenberg showing a lot of potential.
Did you know that there are such events as Hurricane Parties? Well, neither did Bee, a young woman who decides to go to one such party with her girlfriend Sophie. After they reach their destination, a huge mansion in the middle of nowhere, Bee realizes that most of the people there are very rich and spoiled. However, that will be the least of her concerns because when one of the partygoers turns up dead, she will have to use all her wits to survive.
You can think of Bodies Bodies Bodies as a limited character study. They’re willing to explore some of the difficult issues plaguing today’s generation but from a safe distance. There’s nothing here that will make you sit up at night and think about life. If you want that type of experience, I recommend you check out I Stand Alone. Now that’s a movie that will fuck you up.
The movie we’re talking about today feels more like a satirical exploitation movie simultaneously stimulating and making fun of the youngins. I mean, Bodies Bodies Bodies opens with a very hot and steamy kiss between our two female leads only to transition to a scene where they’re obsessively using their mobile phones. It’s not scary although it tries to be and it’s only funny at times. But, as I previously mentioned, I liked it. Not as much as I liked X [2022], but that’s a story for another movie recommendation.
