As a known sucker for science fiction, I was really pleased to see that there is only a few weeks until Europa Report, a movie about the mission to the Europa, one of the Galilean moons of Jupiter, is released. This relatively indie movie should be good, at least according to the information we got so far: Is there life beyond Earth, and if there is, just where the fuck is it? Searching for answers, corporation called Europa Ventures LLC, decides to send a manned expedition to the Europa, hoping to find signs of extraterrestrial life. They assemble a crew of six astronauts from all over the world, recruiting only the best of the best, knowing that this mission will be huge challenge. Those challenges begin with the loss of communication between Earth and the shuttle, and continue with the death of one of the crewman. And this is all before the actual exploration of the Europa’s surface and its vast ocean…
If you have been following the news lately you might have noticed the increased interest in space exploration, especially from private corporations. With only the deepest depths of the oceans left unexplored on Earth, bare in mind that there are several missions to chart some of the regions that are happening right now, the space is the next frontier to be broken. So the scenario seems really realistic, and with the Sharlto Copley from District 9 starring the cast looks formidable. I don’t know why but I am getting a strange vibe that this movie will be similar to Apollo 18 [2011], with a bit more people involved, but that remains to be seen.
The film is set to be released on Video on Demand, June 27th, 2013, and theatrically, August 2nd, check out the trailer below:
