This might actually work, or so I was saying to myself while reading news about the fourth installment in the Jurassic Park franchise. Of course, no one is surprised by this, as almost all of the blockbusters of the nineties are getting their sequels. This time this is not just the sequel to a very successful trilogy based on a Michael Crichton’s novel, but a beginning of a new trilogy, thus ensuring the fans that there will be more Dino carnage in the future. Another thing that is almost certain is the fact that the movies will be shot in new (well, not so new now) 3D technology. With the release date set, and filming rumored to begin next month (April), eleven years after the initial announcement in 2002 it would seem that this is going to be one of those awesome summer blockbusters…
Now, more information about the movie: first of all, no, Steven Spielberg will not be directing it, he opted out for the producer position while the directing will be done by Colin Trevorrow (Safety Not Guaranteed). Colin seems to be the go-to-guy for remakes and sequels since he has been connected with the remake of The Flight of The Navigator and even the new Star Wars movie. I guess we will have to trust Spielberg on this one. Speaking of that, the movie was shelved for a very long time because Spielberg felt that the screenplay didn’t provide the correct balance between the science and action, and now that he’s finally satisfied with the script written by Mark Protosevich (The Cell, Poseidon, I Am Legend) he gave the green light. Protosevich is also the go-to-guy for remakes, same as Colin, as he has written screenplays for the remakes of: Oldboy, The Poseidon and Freakshow. Although the script is ready, some adjustments to it are to be made by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver(Rise of the Planet of the Apes, The Relic).
The actors are yet unknown, but I am guessing that most of them will be reprising their roles, judging from their careers (not doing so well…). This is if the writers decided to use the old crew, or at least some of them, I would love to see more of Richard Attenborough…
