Do you miss fun movies with little monsters from the eighties? Movies like Gremlins and Critters? Well, have I got great news for you then! The Creeps is an intriguing new creature feature starring none other than Christopher Lambert. This action-packed horror comedy is coming to us from talented Finnish director Marko Mäkilaakso. You might remember him from another charming and nostalgia-laced movie, It Came From The Desert. While in that movie feisty teenagers had to battle giant ants, in this movie, they will be fighting a horde of little monsters.
The story follows two young Americans who finally find themselves at Monsterfest, presumably a fan gathering in Vuokatti, Finland. As you can already guess, not long after their arrival, these little critters appear and start attacking everyone at the event. Pretty standard-issue stuff when it comes to this subgenre. Dead Snow and Attack of the Lederhosen Zombies are the first two similarly-themed movies that come to mind. Judging by the concept art and the production values, we can expect a movie featuring sleek visuals.
In charge of the creature design and animation is none other than Disney veteran Barry Atkinson. You can check out his Instagram to see just how good he is. Speaking of veterans, we can also expect a cameo from Gremlins director Joe Dante. The rest of the cast includes Chris Cavalier (Hidden Figures) and Iiro Panula (Born in Heinola). However, I think that the star of the show will be Highlander himself, Mr. Christopher Lambert. I’ve already seen this combination of a legendary actor battling monsters in Stung starring Bishop, Mr. Lance Henriksen.
That turned out to be a great movie and I’m hoping this one will be just as awesome. I’ve seen just one clip of a big explosion on Marko’s Instagram page and it looks fucking glorious. So, don’t be thinking that this is going to be some cheap and shlocky affair. Especially since Shudder has been releasing a lot of mediocre and just crappy horror comedies. No sir, this is going to be an epic adventure by the looks of it also featuring a lot of humor. After all, Finnish comedian Ismo Leikola plays one of the lead roles.
Finally, you also should not confuse this movie, The Creeps, with the eighties zombie comedy The Night of The Creeps. Come to think of it, there are a lot of movies featuring the word Creep in the title. So, as always, I will update this page as soon as more info about the movie and its potential release is available. If I had to guess, I would say that we can expect The Creeps in December 2024 or even January 2025.
