It was so refreshing to see a successful sequel to one of the nineties classics. And one of my favorite movies of all time. Beavis And Butt-Head Do The Universe is hilarious, honest, and just so damn entertaining. It’s both a non-stop laughs and laugh-out-loud comedy updated to today’s standards. Some things never go out of fashion and the juvenile humor of Beavis and Butt-Head is one of those things. After the two of them did America, it was time to do the Universe. And did it they did. Right away I want to emphasize that you do not need to know anything about Beavis and Butt-Head to enjoy this movie.
If that’s the case, I really envy you because the movie you’re about to see is going to blow you away. I’m one of the older fans of this gruesome twosome and you would think that I wouldn’t find the same high-school humor funny anymore. Well, if you would think that, you would be wrong because I freaking loved it. Again, it felt so refreshing and honest in this time full of double meanings where you have to measure your every word. And do not be fooled for one second thinking that this movie is going to be all jokes and crass humor.
Beavis And Butt-Head Do The Universe is full of social and political commentary. It examines our society without resorting to familiar talking points. If you’re as talented as Mike Judge and the rest of the crew, you don’t need that. You can take any topic and use it in a subversive and also entertaining way. Actually, Beavis and Butt-Head are these utterly nihilistic and subversive characters questioning everything. I’m sure that someone already analyzed just how fascinating this dynamic is.
Throughout this whole ordeal, both of them remain innocent. They don’t suddenly start drinking or snorting cocaine but stick to desires we all had when we were just entering our teens. In case you missed all the subtle and not-so-subtle cues strewn throughout the movie, the finale brings it home in a big style. You realize what the authors have been trying to say and you get a better understanding of Beavis and Butt-Head. You realize that you’re them and they’re you.
It’s not going to take a long time for you to start liking these two characters. They’re simple and single-minded but they’re not evil or scheming. They just want to get laid and you can see how the entire society starts using them for their own purposes. And if they want to do something bad to them, you enjoy seeing them set straight in the most hilarious ways. You want our two heroes to make it and get out of an increasing number of dangerous situations they find themselves in.
And yes, in case you’re wondering, one very familiar and popular character from the original appears again. He just needs TP for his bunghole, that’s all. Beavis And Butt-Head Do The Universe is definitely one of the most underrated and also funniest comedies of 2022. So, be sure to check it out. Finally, after this proof of concept, I hope we will get more Beavis and Butt-Head movies in the future.
