As soon as you read the title of this movie Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel, you know it’s going to be a good one. Set in the pub and featuring one hell of a story, this is an extremely underrated British comedy. I mean who else than Brits would set the movie about time travel in a pub. And I immediately have to mention The World’s End, Edgar Wright’s hilarious comedy with similar vibes. Here, instead of Simon Pegg, we got Chris O’Dowd whom you might remember from IT Crowd. He was awesome here giving another charming and honest performance. And I have to also mention Anna Faris spicing up the whole thing even more! And to clear things up, Pete was wrong and she’s not a time-traveling hooker.
So, what do we have here? We will be joining three guys as they start debating the intricacies of time travel while drinking large amounts of beer. Although it doesn’t sound very interesting, I assure you it is. Featuring a very intelligent script and entertaining atmosphere, Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel just flows off the screen. Working on a limited budget, they pulled off a true miracle. The visuals are appealing and we even get a couple of special effects that look totally believable. With a running time of just over eighty minutes, this is a short and sweet ride.
Ray, Pete, and Toby are three good friends all working at the same theme park. Their jobs may be dead-end jobs but at least they get to discuss what would happen if werewolves and vampires teamed up. That, however, is about to change as Ray gets fired. The three of them decide to go to their local pub for a couple of pints and this is where things start to get complicated.
I hate to bring down the mood around FAQ About Time Travel but I have to mention that this was the director’s Gareth Carrivick final movie. He died a year later, leaving us with this positive and genuinely funny movie. It’s low-key, unassuming and above all, refreshing. We usually get the same old stuff when it comes to the issue of time travel so it was really fun to check out something different. As you might have guessed, there will be multiple timelines, paradoxes, and all that good shit. So, you can play those little games where you’re trying to guess what’s going to happen next.
