Home [2015]

Home is an example of a well-done movie that’s totally PC. Everything is perfectly wrapped and when you finally open the present, you get exactly what you hoped for: an entertaining and cute CGI flick that can be enjoyed by both kids and adults. It’s going to be a blip on your radar, mostly because it lacks the quality of truly great movies like Up or Inside Out. Home will not blow you away but I think it won’t bore you either. The cast is great and the special effects are top-notch. The scale of some scenes is really huge, adding to that feeling you’re watching a “big” movie.

It’s perfect for spacing out or those nights when you just don’t know what to watch. The futuristic setting is always a plus and here it offers a lot of zany setups. It reminded me of Absolutely Anything and nineties hit Mars Attacks! Plus it’s good to take a break from the stuff we usually watch and check out something a bit different.

Poor Boov are on the run from their greatest enemy, the fucking Gorg. Finally, they come across a little blue planet they might use to start anew. There’s just one problem, what to do with all the stuff that’s already here. But, Captian Smek has a plan for that…

You already probably know that Jim Parsons and Rihanna are starring in Home. However, did you know just how much of Rihanna is in there? With a lot of songs and a lead role she really made this movie about her. Fortunately, this is Rihanna we’re talking about here and her charisma and talent made Home a pleasurable experience. It’s also nice to see some people of color in lead roles, something that rarely happens in cartoons. Off the top of my head, I can only remember Moana, although I’m sure there are more similar movies.

Back to Home, yes it does lack that overwhelming story (although it is an interesting take on planetary invasions), but the characters and the positive messages are good enough to not notice this. So, it’s time you learn the true meaning of Smekday (and forget it a couple of hours later).
