You could say that Rango is just another animated movie for children, but you would be wrong if you said it isn’t for adults. Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean, The Ring, The Mexican) showed that he is an amazing and very versatile director. They tried to explain how the world works and more importantly how the economy works (just replace water with money). And besides all this, there is a love story, the new guy story, and every other western cliche. It sounds funny, but this cartoon can be looked from many angles, and it seems impossible that the director managed to make something that works on every level. The animation, colors, textures and everything else was supreme and almost photo-realistic. Soon we will cross that border between animated and “real” movies, and when that happens we will not be able to tell them apart.
As in any western, a lonely (in this case really lonely) hero accidentally stumbles into a town in some serious trouble. And Rango, the chameleon is just the thing they need. As any other chameleon, as soon he arrived to the town of Dirt he transformed into most dangerous man (or lizard in this case) in the wild west. His shooting skills are unrivaled, he toughness incredible, and he had no fear. With this set of attributes he will be given a badge and as a new sheriff he will have to investigate the disappearance of precious water from town, and solve a few mysteries along the way. Beautiful animation, references to other famous movies, a lot of good jokes (some of them are quite “adult”) and generally a lot of entertainment is what this movie offers, so grab this offer without thinking, enjoy…
