Wrongfully Accused is one of those charming Leslie Nielsen parodies you can watch any time. And you just know you’re going to have a great time. You also don’t have to know anything about the movies they’re parodying as Wrongfully Accused stands firmly on its two feet. Driven by incredibly charismatic Neilsen, it’s one of those non-stop and laugh-out-loud comedies. Right from the opening scene, it starts building this fun atmosphere while poking fun at the tropes of the genre. I’m certain you’re going to recognize scenes not only from the eighties and nineties thrillers but also some more recent movies. Mostly because things do not change in this genre.
Each time Leslie says, but, but, you have to trust me, I’ve been wrongfully accused, I burst out laughing. Did you know that he was born in 1926 and that he was 72 years young while making this movie? Holy fucking shit, is that something or what? I’ve been meaning to write about how he changed my life and I will as soon as I find some time. He proved that you don’t have to turn into this “old guy” without a sense of humor just waiting to die. But I digress, let’s get back to this hilarious movie. We will be following violinist Ryan Harrison who finds himself in a lot of trouble after a suspicious murder.
Wrongfully Accused is a fast-paced comedy that’s going to just keep firing jokes at you. Some of them will fall flat, some of them will catch you off-guard and some of them will crack you up. There will be also a lot of physical comedy, something Leslie excels at. The filmmakers did not take themselves seriously and I suggest you do the same. Just relax and let this movie take you on a ride. It belongs to a wave of nineties Leslie Nielsen parodies along with Dracula: Dead and Loving It and Spy Hard. Of course, nothing compares to his Airplane and Naked Gun movies.
Ryan Harrison just played another sold show as the world’s most famous violinist. In attendance was a millionaire Hibbing Goodhue with his dashing wife who falls for Ryan hard. She wants to be with him and she tells him that the next day at the party. However, that same day something horrific will happen. Someone is going to kill Hibbing and blame Ryan for the murder. Luckily, Ryan knows who the killer is, a man with one arm, one leg, and one eye.
I think that movies like this don’t get the credit they deserve. Some of the scenes are so creative that I simply could not help laughing out loud. The train chase scene is a perfect example, taking the action/thriller formula for an exciting scene to ludicrous levels. They are perfect for those times when you need something fast-paced and entertaining to keep your attention at all times. No exposition dumps, no establishing shots, just pure chaos.
Apart from Leslie we’ll also have the opportunity to see dashing Kelly LeBrock (Weird Science), Richard Crenna (Rambo) and Michael York (Austin Powers). So, if you’re looking for something different and funny, Wrongfully Accused is a great choice. And you can follow it up with other nineties parodies like Hot Shots or Robin Hood: Men in Tights.
