Youth in Revolt [2009] Movie Review Recommendation

Youth in Revolt [2009]

I wonder how many more movies will be made with the same tag-line of what would guys do for pussy? Although this is a bit harsh for this lightweight comedy, that’s actually based on a book, it still is justified, since the movie uses the same subject. These coming-of-age movies are necessary and I think that this is the only genre that has the justification to repeat and slightly alter the same story over and over again. These years are incredibly important in the development of any human being, so the examination of the subject from different angles is very helpful. And if you sprinkle all these with some black humor, you got yourself a winner.

Nick Twisp is another desolate, loser teenager with strange taste in music and movies. He has one problem and that is his virginity. I liked the colorful characters surrounding him, slutty mom with her trucker boyfriend (another magnificent performance by Zach Galifianakis), loser dad with his 25-year-old bimbo, and weird neighbor (Fred Willard). But life for Nick Twisp is about to change when he meets the girl of his dreams (the first girl that talked to him :D) and he will do anything to hook up with her. He perceives his very identity and physical appearance as something he has to change to dazzle her. This is a very easygoing movie, and do not expect another Superbad or some lame romance flick, but pretty good book adaptation, it reminded me of a similar flick Bart Got A Room. Enjoy.
