The King’s Speech [2010]

After many crappy movies that came out lately, The King’s Speech really gave me hope that the movie industry can still make movies that are worth watching. First of all, lets look at the crew consisting of seasoned actors Colin Firth, Helena Bonham Carter and Geoffrey Rush. If you took these actors gave them a stick and a banana and left them to film themselves the movie would be good (I do not like Helena that much, but still she was great in this movie (not the banana and stick one)). This is the difference between most of the American and European actors, and I can only imagine this movie with some actors that are popular now in USA. Oscar killers I call these movies, they have a convergence of talent and money, resulting in a masterpiece that will be current even 50 years from now.

Based on true events, this movie is about King George VI, father of Queen Elizabeth II, and his speech impairment. Being a person that has to make public speeches this is a huge problem for him. But this is just a surface of his character, something apparent that we can easily notice, there so much more to this man that he cannot reveal to anyone. With the support of his wife, he starts seeing a peculiar man that claims that he can cure his stuttering with his unorthodox approach. I leave the rest for you to check out. Everything was perfect, from acting to camera work and scenography, and I love the fact that they did not try to make “bigger than life” movie or personality, but told a story of a king who is a common men, or common man who is king, with a lot of subtle humor. Fun Facts: While preparing the film, the production knew that having some key cast would help the movie get made so the team took the highly unusual step of getting someone who lived near actor Geoffrey Rush to post the script through his letterbox. Although against industry practice, it did have a covering note apologizing for the unsolicited delivery and explained that they were desperate for him to know the script existed. Rush read the script and agreed to do the film.
