Directed by Takashi Shimizu (The Grudge), 7500 is not your usual jumpy Asian ghost flick. It has a certain TV atmosphere like it’s some biopic or publicity stunt inspired by the mystery surrounding the Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. And while we’re talking about real-life accidents, I have to mention Helios Airways Flight 522. Also, please do not read these articles before you have seen the movie to avoid any spoilers. After this pretty ominous intro, I have to tell you that Flight 7500 is a flawed movie.
You feel that characters were forced into moulds to better suit the target audience. Even their stories at the beginning seemed a bit too hasty and lame. However, as the movie unfolds, we start seeing more and more of that good stuff that we were expecting. Suddenly tension and that claustrophobic feeling in your gut take over and create a decent mystery/horror atmosphere.
The acting was good, with a couple of really good performances. Plus, there’s something about these movies set on a plane. All of this elevates Flight 7500 from all the other supernatural thrillers set on a plane. The special effects reflected the budget of the movie, so don’t expect some lasers and shit. Also, do not confuse it with 7500 [2019] starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Although, if you’re looking to continue your airplane adventures, it is a good choice. Just don’t count on anything supernatural there as it’s your classic airplane hijacking story.
Flight 7500 just departed from LAX on a non-stop flight to Tokyo. For passengers and the crew, this is just another flight, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Because something is about to happen. Something that will shake their beliefs to the core.
Well, now you know everything about the movie. People board, strange shit happens and then the movie is over. This is the best summary I can give you, without revealing too much or boring you with shit that you’re going to see anyways and it’s not that important. So, don’t trust the reviews on IMDb this time, this movie is totally watchable, but be forewarned: it’s not the next Grudge. I guess everyone expected that and this is the reason for all the bad reviews. Granted, this movie is flawed, but the story makes up for that as much as it can.
With a running time of just under eighty minutes, Flight 7500 is a quite watchable airplane mystery with a twist. So, keep your expectations low and it might even surprise you. And if you feel bored and annoyed by what’s going on, you can always trash it. Mostly because all the characters are stereotypical and very familiar. You have your rebel girl, fat guy, sexy girl, good guy, and so forth.
