Featuring one hell of a story, Redirected is a stylish crime thriller. However, it’s not one of those heavy movies but one with a lot of humor and an easygoing atmosphere. Guy Ritchie’s hits like Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, were obviously used as inspiration. Complete with Vinnie Motherfucking Jones. I know that he’s been in some real stinkers recently, but he was excellent here. The rest of the cast was average with a couple of wooden performances. However, that casual vibe and general atmosphere covered that up real nicely. Also, try not to pick apart the story as it’s rather flimsy. Just go with it and you’ll enjoy it, much like the Hangover franchise.
Redirected is a UK/Lithuanian movie, meaning that there will be a lot of Lithuania in it, which is a good thing. Technically not a part of Eastern Europe, it’s one of only three Baltic states. And unlike what you’ll see here, it’s quite developed. I would love to visit it and learn more about it in the first person, as I only know that Lithuanians are great at basketball. Moving on, this movie features plenty of bizarre and oddly hilarious situations. Just when you think you’ve seen it all, the next setup proves to be even crazier. Colorful characters and authentic locations complete the picture of an engaging and just fun movie.
You know how you plan and plan your robberies but something always comes up and fucks up your plan completely? Well, exactly that thing happened to these four buddies who just robbed the wrong man. took the wrong things, and then landed in the wrong fucking country.
I know that Redirected isn’t going to win any awards but if you like this genre, I think you’ll enjoy it. The most important thing about it is that they didn’t take themselves too seriously. And when you add a lot of dark humor, nudity, cursing, and a couple of great jokes, you get a pretty entertaining movie. It will be great as a warm-up flick for something a bit more intense. Or it might even prompt you to revisit some of the great British crime masterpieces. Movies like Layer Cake, In Bruges, Filth, Sexy Beast, and RocknRolla.
I also have to mention Eurotrip, also starring Vinnie Jones as a great follow-up flick. Unable to stop myself I highly recommend having a look at a hilarious Romanian comedy Two Lottery Tickets. It doesn’t have much crime but it sure is funny and authentic.
