Second by second, minute by minute, time in these real-time movies passes at the same rate for both the viewer and the characters. Constrained, gripping, and tense, they’re quite memorable. Here’s a list of my favorites.
Refreshing and charming, Night Owls is a romantic comedy with a twist. Unfolding throughout one night, it follows a one-night stand gone wrong. Or right?
Hilarious and honest, The Stoned Age is a perfect party movie following two metalheads during one wild night of drinking, getting stoned, and chasing girls.
Featuring gorgeous cinematography and an engaging story, Transpecos is an atmospheric and effective thriller following three Border Patrol agents during 24 hours.
Featuring an authentic story and engaging atmosphere, The Autopsy of Jane Doe is an effective horror taking advantage of its inherently creepy setting.
Incredibly intense, unpredictable, and unfolding in real-time, Nokas is an authentic thriller about the biggest heist in Norway's history that will blow you away.
Featuring a couple of great concepts that fell apart in the final third, Bajocero is an atmospheric and gritty Spanish thriller perfect for time-wasting.
Flying high on a couple of great concepts, Shadow in the Cloud is a visually sleek but ultimately too disjointed affair that you should not take seriosly.
I must report that Underwater turned out to be a pretty solid science fiction movie with a couple of gimmicks that ultimately pushed it towards a solid eight.
If you're hungry for those old school and bloody slashers of the eighties, The Babysitter will satisfy all your murderous desires. It's delightfully blood-squirting gory, sexy and pacy, with a lot of humor.
